In Memoriam David W. Pfaff - Golf Course Architect October 31, 1938 -May 19, 2013
David Pfaff was one of those larger than life personalities whose list of talents and accomplishments seems too long and impressive for just one lifetime and only one man.
He was here with us at Quail Chase on May 14th, visiting the golf course he had designed and loved, and then just days later he was gone, passing away unexpectedly while on a golf outing in New Mexico. David had a hand in as designer and architect for well over a hundred courses in 31 states and 16 foreign countries; he collaborated with his good friend Pete Dye on some of the world’s most well renowned venues – like Harbor Town and Crooked Stick. Quails builder (Golf Development Construction) and Owner, Louis Miller had the great fortune of working on 16 courses himself with David.
He was the definition of a self-made man, never completing college because of personal hardship, but going on to become a highly successful engineer, designing special aircraft lighting equipment for the military, including for the Lunar Excursion Module that went to the moon and back.
David Pfaff was a truly remarkable man. And for the last four decades, he has been a dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his beloved wife, Liane, and to his entire family. We will all miss you, Dave.
